Reflection of the first session

The first session of the spring semester, 2022 has begun today, dated 01/03/2022. It was refreshing and meaningful as it used to be. Basically, today’s session was going through the semester term plan. Went through the objectives of this semester to make ourselves clear and aware of learning.

My takeaway messages from this session are, the importance of using ICT in teaching and learning. Integrating ICT-based instructions in the classroom has become more effective than our traditional methods of teaching. ICT is more reliable in the field of teaching and learning. It helps the learner to develop and strengthen knowledge of upcoming situational technologies. Skills that we learned in or through ICT are lifelong.

I also felt it is vital to design an individual road map of ICT, in which I have to set at least a goal of learning ICT in this module. This helps individuals to be more focused and attentive in learning this module. it will keep learners on track so that he or she is not misguided.

As the current situation is not what each one of us has expected, the teaching and learning have to be online through zoom meetings. Therefore, teaching and learning are different from face-to-face teaching and learning. One of the reasons is that the place I am staying currently has no good network or internet connectivity. Due to poor network, the information imparted by the teacher was not hundred percent clear. However, I could capture most of the vital knowledge delivered.

Reflection 2

My key information acquired from the last lesson was, how learners learn in the best way. Different learners learn in their own best way. It has basically three types visual learner, auditory learner, and kinesthetic learner. Visual learners are those learners who enjoy learning by observing the subject content which is displayed in and around their learning environment. For example, this type of student learns best when they have print, pictures, posters, and videos in their learning settings.

Auditory learners have their own way of learning, as they learn effectively with sound or audio. They love listening to the lecture, songs, and rhymes which are integrated with subjects. For example, these students learn more when the teacher delivers the content by lecturing. Another type of learner is the kinesthetic learner. Most probably, this is the most effective learning style that is preferred by a maximum of the learners. Kinesthetic learners enjoy and learn best when they are given hands-on activities. This is learning by doing. These students have to be given enough learning spaces and duration for them to learn better. For example, students like experimenting and experiencing learning.

The session was better with Google to meet compared to that of zoom. The flow of the lesson was clear without any cracking of sounds. The content delivered by the tutor was audible and visible. However, contextualizing with real classroom learning, was not a real-life experience learning. Real classroom learning is always better and more realistic. A tutor can grab the attention of each student, and on the other hand, the learner’s attention to the lesson would not divert as is often happening in online sean session sessions.

Reflection of the session (reflection 4)

Takeaway learning of the session

The lesson was probably the most important so far. It is because the lesson involved ICT integration in the classroom. What is ICT integration in the classroom? It is a use of technology to introduce, reinforce, supplement and extend teaching-learning skills that are part of the daily learning process. There is three level of integration of ICT in the classroom such as basic level, middle level, and high level. The basic level includes showing videos, images, animations, and uploading files and other reading materials. The middle level is about creating simulation lessons, creating learning activities, and following up on these activities using application software.

I have also learned about SAMR model technology integration, named substitution, augmentation, modification, and redefinition. Substitution is the lowest level of technology integration. This is the first stage of enhancing lessons using ICT. Augmentation level is about improving the learning experiences using technology. At modification, the technology really impacts the learning system by bringing effective changes in learning. At the redefinition stage, the technology let students go beyond classroom learning. Students use certain software to explore to enhance their learning.

Contextualize session learning by enabling a real classroom environment

As usual, the learning session went well for the first hour. However, during the second-hour internet fluctuated causing the session distractive. In fact, Google meet had been better than zoom meeting to date, but today the poor connectivity of the network hampered a bit in my learning. Nonetheless, most of the key concepts of the lesson were acquired clearly. If it was in real classroom learning, all those unnecessary obstacles would not happen. Nevertheless, considering the current situation it is the learner’s responsibility to adjust and adapt to online learning despite inevitable network issues.

Writing Composition

Students write using MS word document instead of paper and pen.

Students will use editing tools to edit their write up to make them more meaningful.

For example, students use the Grammarly app.

Students create links to their writings and share them with friends. Friends will give some feedback on each other’s writing.

Students will publish their compositions on the LMS platform. s

Reflection of the session (reflection 5)

In the first session of the week, we were assigned to design a lesson plan integrating the middle-level ICT integration in the classroom. In the group, we plan a lesson for class III of Mathematics. Our topic was Introduction to Fraction. Our lesson plan was to teach class III students to represent a fraction, name the fraction and tell parts and whole. Students have to use PhET interactive simulation to learn them.

Some of the challenges that my group faced during the discussion were deciding on which topic to be taught, and also it was quite challenging to choose an appropriate PhET simulation software for the topic we have chosen. However, with the collaborative effort of the group, the task was completed successfully.

As the group discussion had to be carried out online it was not as easy as we used to in face-to-face group work. It was time consuming as we time-consuming have to listen to each other’s voice messages and read written the message. Sometimes ideas became contradictory because different group members give their own opinions.

In the second session of the week, every group had to explain their lesson plan. Tutor asked the presenter from each group to present the lesson plan. Overall, the presentation was good. Particularly, the tutor gave some feedback on the creativity in designing the model of assessment for our lesson plan. We lacked creativity in designing modes of assessment. Sir, gave us a few examples of the creativity that we could have applied. From that feedback, hereon, I got some creative ideas to design such activities and mode modes of assessments.

Reflection 6

The most important idea that I learned from this session is about video tutorials. What is a video tutorial? It is an instructional video guide in which subject contents are taught through video. The importance of video tutorial is immeasurable, they encourage learners to think critically, makes learning easy, and also influence independent learning. The contents taught through video tutorials last for a longer period in learners’ memories. It motivates learners as visual learners are particularly benefitted. It also influences micro-learning, which means learners can learn in their own way.

How-video tutorials are implemented in the classroom is that teachers must plan lessons, gather information from different sources, and organize and synthesize them before putting them in video tutorials. Some of the vital tools in creating video tutorials are such as Camtasia Camtasia studio, screencast-O-metic and screencastify.

This was the first in-person session after quite a long duration of going through online sessions. I felt the vast differences between online classes and real classroom sessions. The contents taught are clear and more comprehensive.

Reflection on the last session on Digital Citizenship (reflection 7)

The last session was about digital citizenship. My takeaway message from the lesson was, what is digital citizenship, what are some characteristics of good digital citizenship, why is it vital to learn about digital citizenship, and what elements of digital citizenship. What is digital citizenship? Digital citizenship is about effective and responsible use of technologies, providing the right information, creating awareness of digital effects, and giving advocacy to people who are unaware of digital citizenship. Good digital citizenships are constructive contributive citizens. Browse safe and appropriate websites. Protect our own information and respect others. Acknowledge others’ work and say NO to cyberbullying. Use timely, wisely, and sensible use of technologies. Why is it important to learn about digital citizenship? Learning about digital citizenship helps me to understand how we should act when using digital tools and interacting with others. It also helped to know the appropriate use of technologies in the digital world.

Elements of digital citizenship

 i.     Digital access

Every individual has the right to access information, but not all people get the opportunity to access the same information. We have to be cautious about accessing information

 ii.         Digital commerce

Digital commerce is about online buying and selling. As customers, we have to contact the valid and appropriate sources for needed goods.

iii.      Digital communication

It is about communication with the use of different technologies appropriately and responsibly.

iv.    Digital literacy

It is about knowing appropriate technologies and how to use these technologies effectively.

v.    Digital etiquette

Digital etiquette means that there are certain rules and responsibilities when we use ICT. Our use of technologies should not interfere with others’ interests in life.

vi.   Digital law

Knowing how to use technology is not enough, we must follow certain norms and laws of the state about digital usage.

vii.   Digital rights and responsibility

Everyone has the right to use technology, but at the same time, every individual has the responsibility to use it effectively.

viii.  Digital health and wellness

It means physical and psychological implications of digital impacts. Unaware of timely and wisely use of ICT leads to the deterioration user’s memory.

 ix. Digital security

Digital security means keeping data secure and protecting information from outside forces.

Learning activity

Self-introspection

I have been using digital technologies for the last seven to eight years, but I had no idea of responsible usage of those technologies to date. I hadn’t known about digital citizenship. However, attending the last session on digital citizenship I came to know what digital citizenship is. Digital citizenship is about effective and responsible use of technologies, providing the right information, creating awareness of digital effects, and giving advocacy to people who are unaware of digital citizenship. Protect our own information and respect others. Use timely, wisely, and sensible use of technologies. It is vital to understand the importance of learning digital citizenship because; we must know how to use technology appropriately, how to react to others’ information, and how to be responsible digital citizens in the 21st century.

As a digital citizen in country, what is the role of the teacher in digital citizenship?

Role of digital citizenship as a teacher, firstly teacher has to know what digital citizenship is. Why is it important to know about digital citizenship? What are some dos and dons as a digital citizen? Teachers must have knowledge about elements of digital citizenship. Understanding these entire will aid the teacher to be competent to teach his or her students about digital citizenship. Some roles of teachers as digital citizens are to practice copyright and fair use, where the teacher has to use his or their own original works rather than copying others’ works without acknowledging or proper authority. Use technologies effectively and responsibly by understanding the digital law and etiquette of the country. The teacher should maintain student data privacy. Students’ personal data should not be exposed to the outside world. Then, the teacher must let his or her students know about elements of good digital citizenship. Elements of digital citizenship are; A) Digital access: Every individual has the right to access information, but not all people get the opportunity to access the same information. We have to be cautious about accessing information. B) Digital commerce: Digital commerce is about online buying and selling. As customers, we have to contact the valid and appropriate sources for needed goods. C) Digital communication: It is about communication with the use of different technologies appropriately and responsibly. D) Digital literacy: It is about knowing appropriate technologies and how to use these technologies effectively. E) Digital etiquette: Digital etiquette means that there are certain rules and responsibilities when we use ICT. Our use of technologies should not interfere with others’ interest interests in life. F) Digital law: Knowing how to use technology is not enough, we must follow certain norms and laws of the state about digital usage. G) Digital rights and responsibility: Everyone has the right to use technology, but at the same time every individual has the responsibility to use it effectively. H) Digital health and wellness: It means physical and psychological implications of digital impacts. Unaware of timely and wisely use of ICT leads to the deterioration user’s memory. I) Digital security: Digital security means keeping data secure and protecting information from outside forces. If teachers could make students understand all these elements, it is an indication that the teacher has fulfilled vital roles as a digital citizen.

What digital rights and responsibilities you as a teacher should carry out in society, community, and the world?

Digital rights and responsibilities are the right to freedom to communicate with anyone in the digital world while doing it responsibly. The abuse of rights may result in access to the digital world being denied. The citizen must take their rights completely seriously and their responsibilities more seriously. As a teacher, one must create positive examples in assisting each other to gain more knowledge about their rights and responsibilities. Teachers as digital citizens, must create awareness or give advocacy on digital rights and responsibilities, new social media and online trends. The teacher must use appropriate language and behavior when interacting with others. Do not involve in cyberbullying and avoid practicing plagiarism. Keep accessing authentic sources. Do not share the information that may defame others, and create uneasiness in societies.

Share your personal observation through learning experiences.

As a 21st century citizen, I felt it very important to know about the digital world. The current generation desires advanced and upgraded technical skills from individuals. Therefore, to fit in the current scenario one must be skillful in digital knowledge. I also felt that having a digital idea is not enough, the person should be aware of being a good digital citizen. It was really fruitful to experience the session on digital citizenship. Lots of information is gained, and immeasurable knowledge is acquired from the last session. This will definitely enhance my understanding on being digital citizenship, which I will be practicing in my everyday life.

Reflection of the session on constructive tools (reflection 8)

My takeaway messages from the last session were what are constructive tools? Why it is important to learn? How to use constructive tools? Constructive tools are that can be used for manipulation of information, constructing one’s own knowledge, and visualizing one’s understanding of information. They are also tools to connect new knowledge. Some of the examples of constructive tools that I learned were LMS, concept mapping, desktop publisher, Google classroom, blogger, etc. why it is important to learn about constructive tools is that constructive tools enhance new knowledge and foster learners’ critical thinking. It also motivates independent learning and encourages learners to manipulate ideas.

How do we implement constructive tools in teaching and learning? We use PowerPoint in teaching, creating simulations, and creating simple web pages. We use applications such as ms word, PowerPoint, and excel to construct effective learning resources. Some of the advantages of using constructive tools that I have learned are enhancing creativity and thinking skills, showcasing learners’ products, and constructing learning materials for learners for classroom learning.

Reflection 9

Co-constructive tools

My takeaway message from the session is that co-constructive tools are that tools which support the construction of knowledge or tangible projects or products through shared understanding rather than working independently to the construction of personal knowledge. Students use technology tools to share ideas and work together collaboratively to discuss certain tasks. It involves two or more members to construct ideas.

Why it is important to learn about the co-constructive tools is that, enhance learners' construction of new knowledge and collaborative learning? It also encourages having a high-level cognitive process.

How do we integrate co-constructive tools into the lesson? We can integrate co-constructive tools in teaching and learning through the construction of the ICT lesson planning using Google Docs in the teaching and learning process. We can use Google slides and Google sheets for the collaborative learning process.

Some examples of co-constructive tools are; google slides, google docs, google sheets, coggle, and miro.
